JNTU B.Pharmacy I PHARMACEUTICAL ORGANIC CHEMISTRY - I Previous Question Paper (December-2018 / January-2019 - R17)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
PART-A
Describe briefly about the Classification of Organic Compounds with suitable examples.
Answer
Organic compounds are primarily classified into two main categories: Acyclic (open-chain) compounds, such as n-butane, and Cyclic (closed-chain) compounds. Cyclic compounds are further subdivided into Alicyclic (e.g., cyclohexane) and Aromatic (e.g., benzene) compounds, depending on their ring structure and bonding.
What is mean by aromatic compounds? Describe the Huckel’s rule of aromatic compounds.
Answer
Aromatic compounds are cyclic, planar molecules that exhibit special stability due to delocalized pi-electrons. According to Huckel's rule, a compound is aromatic if it is cyclic, planar, fully conjugated, and contains (4n + 2) pi-electrons, where n is an integer (0, 1, 2, ...).
