JNTU B. Pharmacy II PHARMACEUTICAL ANALYSIS-I Previous Question Paper (August / September - 2022 - R17)
Answer any five questions. All questions carry equal marks.
Main
Explain accuracy and precision.
Answer
Accuracy refers to the closeness of a measured value to the true or accepted value. It indicates the correctness of the result and is often expressed in terms of absolute error or relative error.
Precision refers to the degree of agreement between replicate measurements of the same quantity. It describes the reproducibility or repeatability of the results, regardless of whether they are close to the true value. High precision does not guarantee high accuracy.
Define primary and secondary standards with example.
Answer
Primary Standard: A substance of high purity, stable in air, with a high molar mass, and readily available, which can be used to prepare a solution of accurately known concentration by direct weighing. Example: Potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP) or Sodium carbonate.
Secondary Standard: A substance whose concentration cannot be determined by direct weighing because it is not pure or stable enough. Its concentration must be determined by standardization against a primary standard. Example: Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) or Potassium permanganate (KMnO₄).
Define error. Explain the type of error.
