JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Pharmacy IV BIOPHARMACEUTICS AND PHARMACOKINETICS Previous Question Paper (June/July - 2024 - R17)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
Define biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics
Answer
Biopharmaceutics is the study of the interrelationship between the physicochemical properties of the drug, the dosage form, and the route of administration on the rate and extent of systemic drug absorption. Pharmacokinetics is the study of the time course of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) in the body.
What is drug absorption? Why drug must be absorbed?
Answer
Drug absorption is the process by which a drug proceeds from the site of administration to the site of measurement (usually the blood circulation). Drugs must be absorbed because, with the exception of local acting drugs, they must reach the systemic circulation to interact with receptors at the target site to produce a therapeutic response.
