JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Pharmacy IV INSTRUMENTAL METHODS OF ANALYSIS Previous Question Paper (July - 2023 - R17)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
Explain the effect of solvent on absorption spectra.
Answer
The solvent affects the absorption spectra by interacting with the solute molecules through dipole-dipole interactions, hydrogen bonding, or changes in dielectric constant. These interactions can cause shifts in the absorption maximum, known as bathochromic shift (red shift) or hypsochromic shift (blue shift), and may also affect the fine structure of the spectral bands.
What are the electronic states of fluorimetry?
Answer
Fluorimetry involves electronic transitions between the ground state (S₀) and excited singlet states (S₁, S₂). The process includes absorption to a higher vibrational level of an excited state, internal conversion to the lowest vibrational level of S₁, and subsequent fluorescence emission as the molecule returns to the S₀ state.
