JNTU B.Tech II FLUID MECHANICS AND HYDRAULICS Previous Question Paper (April/May - 2023 - R18)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
Define fluid statics, kinematics and Dynamics.
Answer
Fluid Statics is the study of fluids at rest. Fluid Kinematics deals with the motion of fluids without considering the forces causing the motion. Fluid Dynamics is the study of fluid motion considering the forces that cause the motion.
One litre of crude oil weighs 9.6 N. Calculate its specific weight and specific gravity?
Answer
Given: Volume (V) = 1 litre = 0.001 m3, Weight (W) = 9.6 N.
Specific weight (γ) = W / V = 9.6 / 0.001 = 9600 N/m3.
Density (ρ) = γ / g = 9600 / 9.81 ≈ 978.59 kg/m3.
Specific gravity (S) = ρ / ρwater = 978.59 / 1000 ≈ 0.9786.

Part B
An inverted U-tube manometer is used to measure the pressure difference between two pipes A and B. Pipe A is carrying oil (specific gravity=0.8) and pipe B is carrying water. The densities of air and water are 1.16 kg/m3 and 1000 kg/m3, respectively. Acceleration due to gravity (g) = 10 m/s2, Find ∆P (pressure difference).
