a

What are Meteroids and Mircometeroids?

2 marks

Answer

Meteoroids are small rocky or metallic bodies in outer space, typically ranging from the size of a grain of dust to small asteroids. Micrometeoroids are extremely small particles, generally smaller than a millimeter, that pose a significant impact risk to spacecraft due to their high velocities.

b

Distinguish between 'Heavier than air' and 'Lighter than air' flying vehicles.

3 marks

Answer

Lighter-than-air vehicles, such as blimps and airships, achieve lift primarily through buoyancy by displacing a volume of air with a lighter gas like helium. Heavier-than-air vehicles, such as airplanes and helicopters, generate lift dynamically through the movement of air over aerodynamic surfaces (wings or rotors) at sufficient speeds.
