B.Tech | II | II-I | R15 | May/June - 2019

Answer PaperPaper Code: 123ADMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.

PART-A

125 marks
a

Define Kinematic Viscosity. State its units.

2 marks

Answer

Kinematic viscosity is defined as the ratio of dynamic viscosity to the density of the fluid. It is denoted by the Greek letter nu (ν). The SI unit is m2/s and the CGS unit is stoke (1 stoke = 10-4 m2/s).

b

What is the difference between cohesion and adhesion?

3 marks

Answer

Cohesion refers to the intermolecular attraction between molecules of the same substance, which allows the fluid to resist tensile stress. Adhesion refers to the attraction between molecules of different substances, such as between a fluid and a solid boundary, which causes the fluid to wet surfaces.

c

Define non uniform flow. Give one practical example for it.
