JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech II INTRODUCTION TO SPACE TECHNOLOGY Previous Question Paper (May - 2019 - R13)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
PART A
What are the types of space mission?
Answer
Space missions are primarily classified into manned missions (involving human crew) and unmanned missions (robotic or automated). They can also be categorized by purpose, such as scientific exploration, Earth observation, communication, navigation, and military/reconnaissance missions.
Why is multi-staging of rockets required?
Answer
Multi-staging is required to overcome the Tsiolkovsky rocket equation constraints. By discarding empty propellant tanks and heavy structural components (dead weight) once they are exhausted, the rocket significantly reduces its mass, allowing the remaining stages to achieve higher velocities and reach orbit or deep space with greater efficiency.
