Answer PaperPaper Code: 115CGMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

What is kinematic viscosity? What are its units?

2 marks

Answer

Kinematic viscosity is defined as the ratio of dynamic viscosity to the mass density of the fluid. It is denoted by the symbol ν. Its SI unit is m²/s and the CGS unit is Stokes (1 Stoke = 10⁻⁴ m²/s).

b

Define the term static head and manometric head.

3 marks

Answer

Static head is the vertical distance between the suction level and the delivery level of a pump. Manometric head is the actual head against which a pump has to work, calculated as the sum of suction head, delivery head, and head losses (including friction and velocity head) in the system.

c
