Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.
Part A
List four advantages of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
Answer
- Lower exhaust emissions (less CO2, CO, and particulates).
- High octane rating, allowing for higher compression ratios.
- Cost-effective compared to conventional liquid fuels.
- Cleaner burning, which reduces engine deposits and maintenance frequency.
Explain the production of CNG.
Answer
CNG is produced by compressing natural gas (primarily methane) to less than 1% of the volume it occupies at standard atmospheric pressure. The gas is typically sourced from natural gas wells or biogas, purified to remove impurities like water, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon dioxide, and then compressed to pressures between 200 and 250 bar for storage in high-pressure cylinders.
