State the distribution of the following mineral deposits in Telangana State: i) Coal ii) Limestone iii) Iron ore iv) Granite
Answer
The mineral distribution in Telangana is as follows:
- Coal: Primarily found in the Godavari Valley Coalfields, which span across the districts of Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mancherial, Peddapalli, and Jayashankar Bhupalpally. The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) operates these major deposits.
- Limestone: Extensive deposits are located in the districts of Suryapet, Nalgonda, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, and Adilabad. These are primarily utilized by the cement industry.
- Iron ore: Occurrences are found in the districts of Khammam and Adilabad, though these are generally of lower grade and limited commercial scale compared to other states.
- Granite: Telangana is highly rich in multi-colored and black granite, with significant deposits concentrated in Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, and Rangareddy districts, supporting a major export-oriented industry.
Define the terms Ore, Ore Deposits, Mine, and Mining.
Answer
- Ore: A naturally occurring mineral aggregate from which one or more valuable metals or minerals can be extracted profitably under current economic and technological conditions.
- Ore Deposits: A localized concentration of ore minerals within the Earth's crust that is sufficiently large and rich in grade to be considered a viable target for mining operations.
- Mine: An excavation or opening in the Earth's crust, including all associated surface and underground structures, created for the purpose of extracting valuable minerals or ores.
- Mining: The systematic process of extracting valuable minerals or other geological materials from the Earth, usually from an ore body, lode, vein, seam, or reef, which forms the mineralized package of economic interest to the miner.
