JNTU B.Tech III AIR POLLUTION AND CONTROL Previous Question Paper (May - 2019 - R16)
Part A is compulsory. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.
Part A
What is Bhopal gas tragedy?
Answer
The Bhopal gas tragedy was a major industrial disaster that occurred on December 3, 1984, at the Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal, India. A leak of highly toxic methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas resulted in the immediate death of thousands of people and caused long-term health complications for hundreds of thousands more.
What are the primary and secondary pollutants?
Answer
Primary pollutants are emitted directly into the atmosphere from identifiable sources, such as carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitrogen oxides (NOx). Secondary pollutants are formed in the atmosphere through chemical reactions between primary pollutants and other atmospheric components, such as ground-level ozone (O3) and peroxyacetyl nitrates (PANs).
