Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.

Part A

125 marks
a

Define WCB and QCB.

2 marks

Answer

Whole Circle Bearing (WCB) is the bearing of a line measured clockwise from the North meridian, ranging from 0° to 360°. Quadrantal Bearing (QCB), or Reduced Bearing, is measured clockwise or counter-clockwise from the nearest North or South meridian, ranging from 0° to 90°.

b

Differentiate intersection and radiation method.

3 marks

Answer

In the radiation method, the plane table is set up at one station and rays are drawn to various points to locate them. In the intersection method, the table is set up at two different stations, and the point is located by the intersection of rays drawn from both stations, which is ideal for inaccessible points.

A highway embankment 400 m long is 12 m wide at the formation level and has the side slope 2 to 1. The ground levels at every 100 m along the center line are given below. The formation level at zero chainages is 207.00 m, and the embankment has a rising gradient of 1 in 100. The ground is level across the center line. Calculate the volume of earth work.
