Rocks are physically classified into three types based on their structure: Stratified rocks (e.g., Sandstone, Limestone), which show distinct layers; Unstratified rocks (e.g., Granite, Trap), which are crystalline or granular and lack layers; and Foliated rocks (e.g., Slate, Schist), which have a tendency to split along definite planes.

Why Bricks are to be wetted before use?

3 marks

Answer

Bricks are wetted before use to prevent them from absorbing moisture from the mortar, which would otherwise cause the mortar to dry prematurely and lose its strength. Additionally, wetting removes dust from the surface, ensuring a better bond between the brick and the mortar, and helps in achieving uniform setting of the masonry.
