JNTU B.Tech III CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY Previous Question Paper (May 2018 - R13)
Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
PART - A
What is meant by Hydration of cement?
Answer
Hydration of cement is the chemical reaction that occurs when cement is mixed with water, resulting in the formation of calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gel and calcium hydroxide. This exothermic process is responsible for the setting and hardening of the cement paste.
What are Bouges compounds?
Answer
Bogue's compounds are the four primary mineralogical components formed during the clinkering process of cement manufacturing. These are: Tricalcium silicate (C3S), Dicalcium silicate (C2S), Tricalcium aluminate (C3A), and Tetracalcium aluminoferrite (C4AF). Their relative proportions determine the strength, setting time, and heat of hydration of the cement.
Explain setting times of cement.
