Answer PaperPaper Code: 135BMMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

1.a

Distinguish PSP and TSP.

2 marks

Answer

PSP (Personal Software Process) focuses on the individual developer, providing a structured framework to improve their personal performance, quality, and estimation skills by tracking their own work data. In contrast, TSP (Team Software Process) focuses on the team level, providing a framework for self-directed teams to plan, manage, and execute complex software projects effectively while maintaining high quality and meeting delivery schedules.

1.b

List and define CMMI levels.

3 marks

Answer

The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) defines five levels of process maturity that organizations use to improve their software development and management processes:

  1. Level 1: Initial - Processes are unpredictable, poorly controlled, and reactive. Success depends entirely on individual effort and heroics rather than established organizational processes.
  2. Level 2: Managed - Projects are planned, performed, measured, and controlled. Basic project management processes are established to track cost, schedule, and functionality.
  3. Level 3: Defined - Processes are well-characterized, understood, and described in standards, procedures, tools, and methods. The organization uses a consistent set of processes across all projects.
  4. Level 4: Quantitatively Managed - The organization and projects establish quantitative objectives for quality and process performance, using statistical techniques to manage performance.
  5. Level 5: Optimizing - The organization focuses on continuous process improvement through incremental and innovative technological changes based on a quantitative understanding of common causes of variation.
