Answer the following question:

To calculate the equivalent capacitance of capacitors connected in parallel, we use the formula:

  • The equivalent capacitance (Ceq) for capacitors connected in parallel is the algebraic sum of individual capacitances:
    Ceq = C1 + C2 + C3 + ... + Cn
  • Given values: C1 = 4 μF, C2 = 4 μF, C3 = 8 μF.
  • Calculation:
    Ceq = 4 μF + 4 μF + 8 μF = 16 μF
  • Note: Capacitors in parallel experience the same voltage across them, allowing their charges to add up linearly.

The equivalent capacitance is 16 μF.

According to Thevenin’s Theorem, any linear, bilateral active network consisting of independent/dependent sources and resistors can be replaced by an equivalent circuit consisting of a single voltage source in series with a resistor. The connectivity is defined as follows:

  • The Thevenin’s equivalent voltage (Vth), which represents the open-circuit voltage across the specified terminals, is connected in series with the Thevenin’s equivalent resistance (Rth).
  • This combination is then connected in series with the load resistance (RL) to facilitate circuit analysis.
  • The Rth is calculated by turning off all independent sources (short-circuiting voltage sources and open-circuiting current sources) and finding the equivalent resistance seen from the output terminals.
