Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B.

Part- A for 10 marks, Part - B for 50 marks.

Part-A is a compulsory question which consists of ten sub-questions from all units carrying equal marks.

Part-B consists of ten questions (numbered from 2 to 11) carrying 10 marks each. From each unit, there are two questions and the student should answer one of them. Hence, the student should answer five questions from Part-B.

Part A

a

State addition theorem of probability.

1 marks

Answer

For any two events A and B, the addition theorem of probability states that P(A ∪ B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A ∩ B).

b

State Baye’s rule.

1 marks

Answer

Baye's rule states that for a set of mutually exclusive and exhaustive events Ai and an event B, the posterior probability is given by P(Ai|B) = [P(B|Ai) * P(Ai)] / [Σ P(B|Aj) * P(Aj)].

c

Show that

E(aX+b)= a E(X) +b
, where X is a random variable.
