Answer PaperPaper Code: 155CFMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

1a

List the dedicated interrupts of 8086 microprocessor.

2 marks

Answer

The 8086 microprocessor has the following dedicated (non-maskable) interrupts:

  • Type 0: Divide Error Exception (occurs during DIV or IDIV instructions when the quotient exceeds the capacity of the destination register).
  • Type 1: Single-Step Interrupt (used for debugging, triggered when the Trap Flag is set).
  • Type 2: Non-Maskable Interrupt (NMI, triggered by an external signal on the NMI pin).
  • Type 3: Breakpoint Interrupt (triggered by the INT 3 instruction).
  • Type 4: Overflow Interrupt (triggered by the INTO instruction when the Overflow Flag is set).
1b

Define macro with example.

3 marks

Answer

A macro is a block of code in assembly language that is defined once and can be invoked multiple times throughout a program. Unlike a procedure, which uses the CALL instruction to transfer control, the assembler replaces every occurrence of the macro name with the actual body of code defined within the macro during the assembly process, a technique known as macro expansion.

Example:

SUM_MACRO MACRO A, B
MOV AX, A
ADD AX, B
ENDM

In this example, calling SUM_MACRO 5, 10 in the code instructs the assembler to replace that line with the instructions MOV AX, 5 and ADD AX, 10.
