Answer PaperPaper Code: 111ADMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

PART- A

125 marks
a

Define Ionic bond.

2 marks

Answer

An ionic bond is a type of chemical bond formed through the electrostatic force of attraction between oppositely charged ions, typically resulting from the complete transfer of electrons from a metal atom to a non-metal atom.

b

Explain Burger’s vector.

3 marks

Answer

A Burger's vector (denoted by b) is a vector that represents the magnitude and direction of the lattice distortion caused by a dislocation in a crystal. It is determined by constructing a closed circuit around the dislocation line in a perfect crystal and comparing it to the same circuit path in the dislocated crystal; the vector required to close the loop is the Burger's vector.
