JNTU B.Tech III SOFTWARE ENGINEERING Previous Question Paper (October - 2020 - R13)
Answer any five questions. All questions carry equal marks.
Main
What are specialized process models? Explain any one process model in detail.
Answer
Specialized process models are software development methodologies designed for specific application domains or unique project constraints that deviate from traditional linear or iterative models. These models focus on particular requirements such as high reliability, rapid prototyping, or component reuse, allowing teams to address specific challenges like safety-critical systems or web-based applications.
The Component-Based Development (CBD) model is a specialized approach that emphasizes the construction of software systems using pre-existing, reusable software components. The process involves the following steps:
- Requirement analysis and identification of reusable components.
- Modification of existing components to meet specific project requirements.
- Integration of components into the system architecture.
- Testing of the integrated system to ensure component compatibility and functionality.
This model significantly reduces development time and cost by leveraging verified, off-the-shelf components while improving overall system quality through the use of mature, tested code modules.
What is CMMI? Explain.
Answer
CMMI stands for Capability Maturity Model Integration. It is a process improvement framework that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes, helping them improve performance and manage the development, acquisition, and maintenance of products or services.
CMMI categorizes organizational maturity into five levels:
- Initial (Level 1): Processes are unpredictable, poorly controlled, and reactive.
- Managed (Level 2): Projects are planned, performed, measured, and controlled at the project level.
- Defined (Level 3): Processes are well-characterized, understood, and described in standards, procedures, and tools for the entire organization.
- Quantitatively Managed (Level 4): The organization and projects establish quantitative objectives for quality and process performance and use them as criteria in managing processes.
- Optimizing (Level 5): The organization focuses on continuous process improvement through incremental and innovative technological changes.
By assessing an organization against these levels, CMMI helps identify strengths and weaknesses, enabling a structured path toward higher operational efficiency and product quality.
