JNTU B.Tech IV FUNDAMENTALS OF BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS Previous Question Paper (January/February - 2023 - R18)

B.Tech | IV | IV-I | R18 | January/February - 2023

Answer PaperPaper Code: 157EQMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

Give the Nernst equation for electrode potential.

2 marks

Answer

The Nernst equation is given by:

E = E₀ + (RT / nF) ln(C₁ / C₂)

Where E is the electrode potential, E₀ is the standard potential, R is the gas constant, T is the absolute temperature, n is the number of electrons, F is Faraday's constant, and C₁/C₂ are the ionic concentrations.

b

Differentiate between action potential and resting potential.

3 marks

Answer

Resting potential is the stable, negative electrical charge across the cell membrane when the cell is at rest (typically -70 mV). Action potential is a rapid, transient reversal of this membrane potential (depolarization followed by repolarization) that occurs when a cell is stimulated to transmit an electrical signal.
