JNTU B.Tech I ENGINEERING PHYSICS-I Previous Question Paper (May - 2018 - R16)
Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
Explain basic difference between division of amplitude and division of wave front.
Answer
In division of wave front, the incident wave front is divided into two or more parts by using apertures or slits, which then act as coherent secondary sources. In division of amplitude, the amplitude of the incident wave is split into two or more parts by partial reflection or refraction at surfaces, and these parts are later recombined to produce interference.
Describe the properties of Fraunhofer diffraction.
Answer
Fraunhofer diffraction occurs when both the source of light and the screen are effectively at an infinite distance from the diffracting aperture. Key properties include:
- The incident light rays are parallel to each other.
- The diffracted rays are also parallel.
- It is typically observed using collimating lenses to focus the light.
- The resulting pattern depends on the shape and size of the aperture.
