Answer PaperPaper Code: 133ABMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

PART-A

125 marks
a

What is Bias? What is the need for biasing?

2 marks

Answer

Biasing is the process of applying external DC voltages to a transistor to establish a stable operating point (Q-point) in the active region. It is necessary to ensure the transistor remains in the desired region of operation regardless of signal fluctuations, temperature changes, or device parameter variations, thereby preventing signal distortion.

b

How does the input impedance increases due to darlington connection?

3 marks

Answer

In a Darlington connection, the emitter of the first transistor is directly connected to the base of the second. The input impedance is approximately

Zin ≈ β1β2RE
. Because the input impedance of the second stage acts as the load for the first stage, the total input resistance is multiplied by the current gains of both transistors, leading to a significantly higher input impedance compared to a single-stage amplifier.

c
