Answer PaperPaper Code: 153BHMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B.
ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions.
iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

1a

What is mutual inductance?

2 marks

Answer

Mutual inductance is the property of two or more inductive coils where a change in current in one coil induces an electromotive force (EMF) in the other coil due to the linkage of magnetic flux. It is denoted by M and is measured in Henries (H).

e₂ = -M(di₁/dt)

This phenomenon occurs when the magnetic field produced by the current in the first coil passes through the turns of the second coil.

1b

Write the volt-ampere relations of R, L, C parameters.

3 marks

Answer

The volt-ampere relations for the three fundamental passive circuit elements are as follows:

For a Resistor (R), the relationship is defined by Ohm's Law:

v(t) = R · i(t)

For an Inductor (L), the voltage is proportional to the rate of change of current:

v(t) = L · di(t) / dt

For a Capacitor (C), the current is proportional to the rate of change of voltage, expressed as:

i(t) = C · dv(t) / dt

Alternatively, the voltage across a capacitor can be expressed in terms of the integral of the current:

v(t) = (1 / C) · ∫ i(t) dt
