JNTU B.Tech III ANTENNAS AND WAVE PROPAGATION Previous Question Paper (July/August - 2023 - R13)

B.Tech | III | I | R13 | July/August - 2023

Answer PaperPaper Code: 115DQMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B.
ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions.
iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

1a

Calculate effective length of λ/2 antenna. Given Rr = 73Ω, Ae = 0.13λ2, η=120π.

2 marks

Answer

The effective length (le) of an antenna is related to its effective aperture (Ae) and radiation resistance (Rr) by the formula:

le = 2 √(Ae Rr / η)

Given Ae = 0.13λ2, Rr = 73 Ω, and η = 120π Ω ≈ 377 Ω, substituting these values yields:

le = 2 √(0.13λ2 × 73 / 377)
le = 2 √(9.49λ2 / 377) ≈ 2 √(0.02517λ2)
le ≈ 2 × 0.1586λ ≈ 0.317λ
1b

Define the terms antenna efficiency and radiation efficiency.

3 marks

Answer

Antenna Efficiency is defined as the ratio of the power radiated by the antenna to the total power delivered to the antenna terminals. It accounts for both conduction-dielectric losses and impedance mismatch losses at the input terminals.

Radiation Efficiency is defined as the ratio of the power radiated by the antenna to the total power accepted by the antenna. It specifically accounts for the conduction-dielectric losses within the antenna structure, excluding impedance mismatch losses.

ηᵣ = Pᵣₐd / Pₐ꜀꜀

Where ηᵣ is the radiation efficiency, Pᵣₐd is the radiated power, and Pₐ꜀꜀ is the power accepted by the antenna.
