JNTU B.Tech III DATA COMMUNICATIONS AND NETWORKS Previous Question Paper (January/February - 2023 - R18)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
Differentiate between Computer Network and Distributed system.
Answer
A Computer Network is a collection of autonomous computers interconnected by a single technology, where the primary goal is to facilitate communication and resource sharing while the user is aware of the individual machines. In contrast, a Distributed System is a collection of independent computers that appear to the user as a single coherent system, where the underlying distribution of resources and processing is transparent to the user.
List and define the network criteria.
Answer
A network must meet three fundamental criteria to be considered effective and efficient:
- Performance: Measured in terms of transit time and response time. It is influenced by the number of users, type of transmission medium, capabilities of connected hardware, and the efficiency of software.
- Reliability: Measured by the frequency of failure, the time it takes to recover from a failure, and the network's robustness in a catastrophe. It ensures the accuracy of data delivery.
- Security: Involves protecting data from unauthorized access, ensuring data integrity, and implementing mechanisms to recover from data loss.
