Answer PaperPaper Code: 135AKMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

What is the main difference in DPCM and DM?

2 marks

Answer

In DPCM (Differential Pulse Code Modulation), the difference between the current sample and its prediction is quantized using multiple bits. In DM (Delta Modulation), the difference is quantized using only one bit, effectively acting as a 1-bit DPCM system.

b

Specify the Nyquist rate and the Nyquist interval for each of the following signals: i) sinc(200t) ii) sinc2(200t).

3 marks

Answer

i) For sinc(200t), the bandwidth W = 100 Hz. Nyquist rate = 2W = 200 Hz; Nyquist interval = 1/2W = 0.005 s.

ii) For sinc2(200t), the bandwidth W = 200 Hz. Nyquist rate = 2W = 400 Hz; Nyquist interval = 1/2W = 0.0025 s.

c

Show that the entropy is maximum when all the symbols are equi probable. Assume M=2.
