JNTU B.Tech III ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING MATERIALS Previous Question Paper (May/June - 2019 - R16)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
Give and explain in brief the broad classification of materials.
Answer
Materials are broadly classified into three categories based on their electrical conductivity: Conductors, which have high conductivity and allow easy flow of electrons; Insulators, which have very low conductivity and resist electron flow; and Semiconductors, which have conductivity values between those of conductors and insulators and can be controlled by temperature or doping.
Explain the term Dielectric Constant.
Answer
The Dielectric Constant (or relative permittivity) is the ratio of the permittivity of a material to the permittivity of free space. It measures a material's ability to store electrical energy in an electric field. It is defined as:
where ε is the permittivity of the material and ε₀ is the permittivity of free space.
