B. Tech | III | II | R16 | July - 2023

Answer PaperPaper Code: 136AFMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B.
ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions.
iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

PART - A

125 marks
a

Define the term half-power beam width of an antenna.

2 marks

Answer

The Half-Power Beam Width (HPBW) is the angular separation between the two points on the radiation pattern where the radiated power density is one-half of the maximum value of the main beam.

b

Calculate the radiation efficiency of a short dipole which is λ/15 m long and it has Rloss=1.5Ω.

3 marks

Answer

For a short dipole of length L = λ/15, the radiation resistance is given by:

Rrad = 80π²(L/λ)² = 80π²(1/15)² ≈ 3.508 Ω

The radiation efficiency η is calculated as:

η = Rrad / (Rrad + Rloss) = 3.508 / (3.508 + 1.5) ≈ 0.7006 or 70.06%
