Answer PaperPaper Code: 113BWMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Part A is compulsory. Part B: Answer any one question from each unit.

Part A

1a

Write the V-I relation of i) Inductance and ii) Capacitance.

2 marks

Answer

i) For an inductance L, the voltage-current relationship is given by the formula:

v(t) = L (di(t) / dt)

ii) For a capacitance C, the voltage-current relationship is given by the formula:

i(t) = C (dv(t) / dt)
1b

Explain Kirchhoff’s voltage law with example.

3 marks

Answer

Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law (KVL) states that the algebraic sum of all voltages around any closed loop in a circuit is zero. This is based on the principle of conservation of energy, as the total energy supplied by sources must equal the total energy dissipated or stored by circuit elements.

Σ V = 0

For example, in a simple series circuit with a voltage source V and two resistors R1 and R2, the loop equation is:

V - I R1 - I R2 = 0

This implies that the source voltage is equal to the sum of the voltage drops across the resistors, V = I(R1 + R2).
