Answer PaperPaper Code: 113BXMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.

PART - A

125 marks
a

What is surface tension and what is its significance?

2 marks

Answer

Surface tension is the tensile force acting on the surface of a liquid in contact with a gas or another liquid, caused by the cohesive forces between molecules. It is significant in determining capillary action, the formation of droplets, and the behavior of fluid interfaces.

b

Define atmospheric pressure, gauge pressure and vacuum pressure.

3 marks

Answer

Atmospheric pressure is the pressure exerted by the weight of the atmosphere. Gauge pressure is the pressure measured relative to atmospheric pressure. Vacuum pressure is the pressure measured below atmospheric pressure.
