Answer PaperPaper Code: 136BMMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

1.a

What do you mean by sampled data?

2 marks

Answer

Sampled data refers to a signal obtained by measuring the values of a continuous-time signal at discrete, periodic intervals of time. Instead of representing the signal continuously, the data is represented as a sequence of discrete values, which allows for digital processing, storage, and transmission of information that was originally analog in nature.

1.b

Distinguish between periodic signal and aperiodic signal.

3 marks

Answer

A periodic signal is a signal that repeats its pattern exactly at regular intervals of time. It satisfies the condition x(t) = x(t + T) for all t, where T is the fundamental time period. Examples include sine waves and square waves.

An aperiodic signal (or non-periodic signal) is a signal that does not repeat its pattern at any regular interval of time. It does not satisfy the periodicity condition for any finite value of T. Examples include random noise and transient signals like a single exponential pulse.
