JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech III SWITCH GEAR AND PROTECTION Previous Question Paper (August/September - 2024 - R16)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
What are the different specifications to be considered in the design of a circuit breaker?
Answer
The key specifications include rated voltage, rated current, rated frequency, rated breaking capacity (symmetrical and asymmetrical), rated making capacity, short-time current rating, and the operating duty cycle.
Write short notes on break down voltage of a circuit breaker.
Answer
The breakdown voltage of a circuit breaker is the minimum voltage required to cause the insulating medium (such as air, oil, SF6, or vacuum) between the contacts to ionize and conduct current. It depends on the contact gap, the pressure and type of the insulating medium, and the presence of any impurities or moisture.
