B.Tech | II | II-I | R16 | May/June - 2019

Answer PaperPaper Code: 133AKMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.

Part A

125 marks
a

Give a brief classification of electrical measuring instruments.

2 marks

Answer

Electrical measuring instruments are primarily classified into two categories: Absolute instruments, which give the value of the quantity in terms of physical constants (e.g., Tangent Galvanometer), and Secondary instruments, which are calibrated by comparison with an absolute instrument and provide direct readings (e.g., Ammeters, Voltmeters).

b

What are the different torques that are produced in a measuring instrument?

3 marks

Answer

To ensure proper operation, an analog instrument requires three essential torques: 1) Deflecting torque, which moves the pointer from its zero position; 2) Controlling torque, which opposes the deflecting torque to bring the pointer to a steady state; and 3) Damping torque, which brings the pointer to rest quickly by eliminating oscillations.
