Answer PaperPaper Code: 113AUMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B.

ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, answer all questions.

iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

Write the applications of photo diode.

2 marks

Answer

Photodiodes are primarily used in light detection systems, optical communication receivers, smoke detectors, medical imaging equipment, and industrial automation sensors for counting or positioning.

b

Write the effect of temperature on diode characteristics.

3 marks

Answer

As temperature increases, the reverse saturation current (Io) of a diode approximately doubles for every 10°C rise in silicon. This causes the forward voltage drop to decrease by about 2.5 mV/°C for a constant forward current, and the reverse leakage current increases significantly, which can lead to thermal instability.

c

Define Transformer utilization factor.
