Main
State and explain the Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction.
Answer
Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction states that whenever the magnetic flux linked with a circuit changes, an electromotive force (EMF) is induced in the circuit. The magnitude of this induced EMF is directly proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux linkage.
In this formula, e represents the induced EMF in volts, N is the number of turns in the coil, and dΦ/dt is the rate of change of magnetic flux in Webers per second. The negative sign, known as Lenz's Law, indicates that the direction of the induced EMF is such that it opposes the change in magnetic flux that produced it.
Determine the values of V1, V2 and V3 in the circuit shown in figure 1.
Answer
To determine the voltages V1, V2, and V3 in a resistive circuit, apply Kirchhoff's Voltage Law (KVL), which states that the algebraic sum of voltages around any closed loop is zero. Assuming the circuit is a series configuration with a source voltage V and resistors R1, R2, and R3:
- Identify the total current I flowing through the series circuit using the total resistance: I = V / (R1 + R2 + R3).
- Calculate individual voltage drops using Ohm's Law: V1 = I × R1, V2 = I × R2, and V3 = I × R3.
- Verify that the sum of the individual voltage drops equals the source voltage: V1 + V2 + V3 = V.
If the circuit involves parallel branches, identify the voltage across each branch by applying the voltage divider rule or nodal analysis depending on the specific configuration provided in the figure.
