Answer PaperPaper Code: 134ARMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.

PART - A

125 marks
a

Explain about error detecting codes with examples.

2 marks

Answer

Error detecting codes are binary codes used to detect errors that occur during data transmission. A common example is the parity bit, where an extra bit is added to a data word to make the total number of 1s either even (even parity) or odd (odd parity). Another example is the checksum, which is the sum of a block of data used to verify data integrity.

b

Explain the basic theorems and properties of Boolean algebra.

3 marks

Answer

Boolean algebra relies on fundamental laws: Commutative law (A+B=B+A), Associative law (A+(B+C)=(A+B)+C), Distributive law (A(B+C)=AB+AC), and De Morgan's Theorems ((A+B)'=A'B' and (AB)'=A'+B'). These properties allow for the simplification of complex logic expressions into minimal forms.

c
