Part A

a

How the amplifiers are classified?

2 marks

Answer

Amplifiers are classified based on the input signal frequency (Audio, Radio, Video), the method of operation (Class A, B, AB, C), the coupling method (RC, Transformer, Direct), and the number of stages (Single-stage, Multi-stage).

b

State and prove Miller’s theorem.

3 marks

Answer

Miller's theorem states that an impedance Z connected between two nodes with a voltage gain A can be replaced by two impedances connected from each node to ground. The input impedance is Z/(1-A) and the output impedance is Z/(1-1/A). Proof: Given nodes 1 and 2 with voltages V1 and V2, where V2 = AV1, the current through Z is I = (V1-V2)/Z = V1(1-A)/Z. The input impedance is Z_in = V1/I = Z/(1-A). Similarly, for the output side, I_out = (V2-V1)/Z = V2(1-1/A)/Z, so Z_out = V2/I_out = Z/(1-1/A).
