Answer PaperPaper Code: 134CCMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

What is linear wave shaping? Give some examples.

2 marks

Answer

Linear wave shaping is the process of altering the shape of a non-sinusoidal input signal using only linear elements such as resistors, capacitors, and inductors. The output signal remains a linear function of the input. Examples include high-pass RC circuits, low-pass RC circuits, and RLC circuits used for differentiation or integration.

b

Explain an uncompensated attenuator.

3 marks

Answer

An uncompensated attenuator is a voltage divider circuit consisting of two resistors in series used to reduce the amplitude of an input signal without changing its waveform shape. However, in practical applications, the input capacitance of the following stage forms a low-pass filter with the resistive network, causing the high-frequency components of the signal to be attenuated more than the low-frequency components, leading to waveform distortion.

c
