JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech III DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING Previous Question Paper (May/June - 2019 - R13)
Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.
Part A
Define energy and power signal.
Answer
An energy signal is a signal with finite total energy and zero average power, defined as E = Σ |x(n)|2 < ∞. A power signal is a signal with finite non-zero average power and infinite total energy, defined as P = lim (N→∞) (1/(2N+1)) Σ |x(n)|2.
Define stable and unstable system with suitable examples.
Answer
A system is stable (BIBO stable) if every bounded input produces a bounded output. For example, y(n) = x(n) is stable. A system is unstable if at least one bounded input results in an unbounded output. For example, the accumulator y(n) = Σ x(k) from k=-∞ to n is unstable because a constant input leads to an output that grows infinitely.
