Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.
Part A
Explain a single bit sliding window protocol.
Answer
A single-bit sliding window protocol is a stop-and-wait flow control mechanism where the sender transmits one frame and waits for an acknowledgment before sending the next. The window size for both sender and receiver is 1, ensuring that only one frame is in transit at any given time.
What is checksum in error detection method?
Answer
A checksum is an error detection technique where the data is divided into equal-sized segments and summed using one's complement arithmetic. The sender calculates this sum, complements it, and appends it as the checksum field. The receiver performs the same calculation; if the result is all ones, the data is accepted as error-free.
