Answer PaperPaper Code: 115AMMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.

Part A

125 marks
a

Define sensitivity and precision of an instrument.

2 marks

Answer

Sensitivity is the ratio of the change in output of an instrument to the change in the input being measured. Precision is the degree of reproducibility of a series of measurements, indicating how closely repeated measurements of the same quantity agree with each other.

b

Write how the range of DC voltmeter is extended.

3 marks

Answer

The range of a DC voltmeter is extended by connecting a high-value resistor, known as a multiplier, in series with the basic D'Arsonval meter movement. This limits the current flowing through the meter to its full-scale deflection value while allowing a higher voltage to be measured across the combination.
