Answer PaperPaper Code: 113BRMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.

Part A

125 marks
a

When three capacitors of 5µF each are connected in series, find its equivalent Capacitance?

2 marks

Answer

For capacitors connected in series, the equivalent capacitance Ceq is given by 1/Ceq = 1/C1 + 1/C2 + 1/C3. Since all capacitors are 5µF, 1/Ceq = 1/5 + 1/5 + 1/5 = 3/5. Therefore, Ceq = 5/3 = 1.67µF.

b

State Kirchhoff’s laws with an example.

3 marks

Answer

Kirchhoff's Current Law (KCL): The algebraic sum of currents meeting at a node is zero. Example: In a junction where 5A enters and 3A and 2A leave, 5 - 3 - 2 = 0.

Kirchhoff's Voltage Law (KVL): The algebraic sum of voltages around any closed loop is zero. Example: In a single loop circuit with a source V and resistors R1 and R2, V - IR1 - IR2 = 0.
