JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech II DATA COMMUNICATION Previous Question Paper (May - 2019 - R13)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
PART - A
Define open systems interconnection.
Answer
The Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model is a conceptual framework developed by the ISO that standardizes the functions of a communication system into seven distinct layers, enabling interoperability between diverse computer systems regardless of their underlying architecture.
Determine the minimum bandwidth, baud and bandwidth efficiency of 8-QAM with a bit rate of 4800 bps.
Answer
For 8-QAM, the number of bits per symbol is n = log2(8) = 3 bits/symbol.
- Baud rate = Bit rate / n = 4800 / 3 = 1600 baud.
- Minimum Bandwidth = Baud rate = 1600 Hz.
- Bandwidth efficiency = Bit rate / Bandwidth = 4800 / 1600 = 3 bps/Hz.
