Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad B.Tech II DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF ALGORITHMS Previous Question Paper (December - 2017 - R15)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.
Part A
Write about Divide and conquer general method.
Answer
Divide and conquer is an algorithmic paradigm that breaks a problem into smaller sub-problems of the same type, solves them recursively, and combines their solutions to obtain the solution to the original problem. It follows three steps: Divide the problem into sub-problems, Conquer by solving sub-problems recursively, and Combine the solutions.
Define any three asymptotic notations.
Answer
The three common asymptotic notations are:
- Big-O Notation (O): Provides an upper bound on the growth rate of an algorithm's running time.
- Omega Notation (Ω): Provides a lower bound on the growth rate of an algorithm's running time.
- Theta Notation (Θ): Provides both an upper and lower bound, indicating the tight bound of the growth rate.
