JNTU B.Tech IV INFORMATION SECURITY Previous Question Paper (December-2023/January-2024 - R15)
Question paper consists of Part A, Part B.
Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions.
In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
Define Steganography.
Answer
Steganography is the practice of concealing secret information within a non-secret carrier medium, such as an image, audio file, or text, in such a way that the very existence of the message is hidden from unauthorized observers. Unlike cryptography, which renders a message unreadable, steganography focuses on hiding the presence of the communication itself.
List out possible types of Attacks.
Answer
Attacks in information security are generally categorized into the following types:
- Passive Attacks: These involve monitoring or eavesdropping on transmissions to obtain information without altering the system resources or affecting system operation. Examples include traffic analysis and release of message contents.
- Active Attacks: These involve attempts to alter system resources or affect their operation. They include modification of data streams or the creation of a false stream. Examples include masquerade, replay, modification of messages, and denial of service.
- Distributed Attacks: These involve multiple compromised systems attacking a single target, often used to overwhelm network resources or services, such as a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack.
