JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech II PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY Previous Question Paper (September/October - 2023 - R15)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B.
ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, answer all questions.
iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
List out different types of patterns.
Answer
Common types of patterns include: single-piece, split-piece, match-plate, cope and drag, loose-piece, sweep, skeleton, shell, and follow-board patterns.
What are expendable patterns and why are they used?
Answer
Expendable patterns are made of materials like expanded polystyrene (EPS) or wax that are destroyed or consumed during the casting process. They are used in investment casting and full-mold casting to produce complex, intricate shapes with high dimensional accuracy and excellent surface finish, as they do not require a parting line or draft angles.
