Answer PaperPaper Code: 115AJMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

Differentiate between sensitivity and range with suitable example.

2 marks

Answer

Sensitivity is the ratio of the change in output to the change in input (e.g., a dial indicator moving 1mm for every 0.01mm of plunger travel). Range is the total span of values an instrument can measure (e.g., a micrometer with a 0-25mm range).

b

State the important factors of ISI system for selection of fits and tolerances.

3 marks

Answer

The ISI system for fits and tolerances is based on: 1) The use of a standard hole or shaft basis system, 2) The selection of fundamental deviations to define the position of the tolerance zone relative to the zero line, and 3) The selection of tolerance grades (IT grades) to define the magnitude of the tolerance zone based on the nominal size.

c
