JNTU B.Tech III UNCONVENTIONAL MACHINING PROCESSES Previous Question Paper (August/September - 2024 - R16)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
What are the essential elements of ultrasonic machining?
Answer
The essential elements of ultrasonic machining (USM) are an ultrasonic frequency generator (power supply), a transducer (piezoelectric or magnetostrictive), a tool holder (concentrator/horn), the cutting tool, an abrasive slurry, and a work-holding fixture.
What energy sources are used in non-traditional machining techniques? Give examples for each.
Answer
Non-traditional machining techniques utilize various energy sources to remove material:
- Mechanical energy: Abrasive Jet Machining (AJM), Ultrasonic Machining (USM), Water Jet Machining (WJM).
- Thermal energy: Electric Discharge Machining (EDM), Laser Beam Machining (LBM), Plasma Arc Machining (PAM), Electron Beam Machining (EBM).
- Chemical/Electrochemical energy: Chemical Machining (CHM), Electrochemical Machining (ECM).
